Sean McGary - Owner

Sean McGary is the son of jazz hall of fame inductee and world-renowned saxophone player, Jimmy McGary. Sean grew up surrounded by music and exceptional musicians, as his father played and recorded with legends such as James Brown, Miles Davis and Buddy Rich. 

Unquestionably bitten by the "music bug" at an early age, Sean has followed in his father’s footsteps, playing professionally - as well as teaching - for over 25 years. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business entertainment and has worked with industry icons such as Bootsy Collins, Buckethead, Catfish Collins (James Brown), Bernie Worrell (Talking Heads), Richard Fortus (Guns n Roses) and countless other entertainment professionals. 

Currently, Sean plays guitar for a few of the region's top cover bands, including 3 Piece Revival, Naked Karate Girls and Catalina Wine Mixer.

Sean's primary passion is sharing his love of music through teaching guitar lessons. He has successfully taught thousands of students for almost 30 years, working with students of all ages and skill levels.

Tim Sylvester

Emcee / Studio and Live Sound Engineer / Producer / Executive & Event Producer

Owner and Founder of "The SlyBand" since 1998.

Tim has played guitar for 30 straight years and began teaching at Buddy Rogers in 1993 as a Junior at School for Creative & Performing Arts, with brief study at CCM.

Tim has shared the stage with some of the greatest musicians, such as Bootsy Collins, Freekbass, Victor Wooten, Devon Allan and Nick Patricia from “Walk the Moon”.

As a studio guitarist, he has recorded with members of Guns and Roses, Phish, Parliament Funkadelic and has covered Joe Bonamassa parts for live performances and his guitar playing is on many commercials and T.V. Shows.

Degree in Guitar Performance at MI, Hollywood, CA.

Degree in Video Game & Film Scoring/Composition and Studio Production from Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Tery Metcalf

Guitar / Piano

Tery began playing guitar and piano at the age of seven with a quickly developing ear exposed to a mix of Pop, Rock, Blues and Jazz. Jam sessions during Junior High guitar class where the instructor was also a piano player expanded his knowledge. Advanced music theory class in High School lead to teaching guitar classes where he met and studied with Joff Jones and Rick Van Patten. In the years following, Tery co-founded Player’s Music in Cincinnati, where they taught group music lessons and hosted Monday Night Jams attracting local talent.

Tery’s career as a professional musician, playing in local and regional acts, landed him Onstage or in the Studio with many great artists. He played in his dance band Joyride, and had his trio Tery Metcalf Project. Tery played fill-in and pick-up gigs with Big in Iowa, Legend, Billy Rose, The Original Goldenaires and Billy Hamilton. He was the guitarist for Katrina Williams, a great songwriter who writes for, The Temptations, Chante Moore and Brian McKnight. Tery has recorded in Atlanta, Cincinnati and Nashville alongside Kasey Williams, Lonnie Mack, Johnny Neel, Jimmy D. Rogers, Greg “Lumpy” Day, Rick Stone and The Reverend Billy Rose.

Tery is now recording and playing regional shows with his band and teaching guitar and piano at The Music Salon.

John Hoerr

Guitar / Bass / Piano

John is a seasoned musician with four decades of experience on the guitar and bass. He received a B.A. in Music at BGSU, where he studied composition with Wallace DePue and Donald Wilson.

He has written music for feature films, short films, and documentaries. John is also a versatile performer, lending his vocals, bass, and keyboard skills to multiple bands, including Signs of Life: The American Pink Floyd and Blue Eighty.

He also performs as a solo singer/guitarist for private events, and he finds fulfillment in guiding young minds through music enrichment classes tailored for toddlers and preschoolers. He also contributes his talents as an acoustic guitarist and bassist to church congregations.
