Commissioned by the BASBWE College Commission Consortium. Tetrasemic - equivalent to four short syllables. This piece for flute, trumpet, saxophone quartet (SATB), and two percussion, can best be described as a hybrid of two, opposing musical ideas. The slow opening section sees the introduction of a tranquil, flowing melody which is abruptly interrupted by a four-note cell. The piece develops the relationship between these two ideas - both in collaboration and opposition, ending without any real sense that the argument has been resolved.
