This work for solo, unaccompanied clarinet was commissioned by Linda Merrick as one of the set works for the inaugural Howarth Clarinet Competition. The piece utilises many aspects of the clarinet player's extended technical capabilities, particularly focusing on the use of tremolos, wide vibratos and multiphonics.
